Re: Presidential Awards for Excellence in Science, Math, et al (fwd)

Would someone please explain this one! Is not an excellent teacher an
excellent mentor. Are not these distinguished teachers noted for their
ability to reach students? Where did this new mentoring award come
from? It seems to carry quite a bit of monetary dividends. Is this $10K
prize similar to what is received by an presidential teacher of
excellence? How does one judge what a excellent mentor is? This all
seems very odd.
