Why is this? Is it just because the retina has a higher ratio of cones
to rods in the center area of your "vision", therefore its not as
sensitive to black and white as your periferal vision? I noticed this
phenomenon 2 nights ago when viewing the comet. I could see it much
better when I looked about 20 degrees to the side of it.
