At the start of the workshop, I asked some students what happens when the monkey lets go at the same instant the ball leaves. All were 2nd year or beyond physics majors. None knew the answer, nor did they figure it out. So they built it, made observations, and THEN the physics came back to them. The friggin' demo turned the lights back on for them.

I used that anecdote in my talk, and you should have seen the lights turn on for these faculty members. We need to continue to spread the gospel of DEMO.

This (question and thought before) is most important. I’ve read posts where demos have utterly failed without this. (Part of PER)
