Physicist Bill Foster won the election yesterday (Saturday March 8th)
in the Illinois 14th Congressional District. This was a special
election to fill the seat vacated by former Speaker Dennis Hastert.
The other physicists in the House are Vern Ehlers and Rush Holt.
You can tell your students:
a) It's nice to have some folks in Congress who know what
"conservation of energy" means in a physics context, which
is quite different from what it means in other contexts.
b) Political skills are very different from physics skills,
but being good and one thing does not preclude you from
being good at other things.
