I think John D. may be being a bit disingenuous here. Bob seems to
be responding to JD's previous suggestion that one can add
accelerations due to different forces acting on the same object just
as one can add the forces themselves. But JD seems now to be
changing the subject to one of relative accelerations which nobody
will disagree are additive.

And for which the 'Forces cause acceleration' lobby can point to separate (net) forces as causing each acceleration--one net force acting on the car, one net force acting on the table. ;-)
