Removing an anencephalic still-fetus from the mother is
also an abortion: emphatically, even vehemently so,
if you feel moved to express it in these terms.

But there is a legitimate ethical debate on the difference
between an embryo, and a fetus, and so on.
The debate level suffers when both sides take emotional
positions using vivid phrases like "ripping out" or
"the government straying into the bedroom".

For what it's worth, I have reviewed obs/gyn articles on
the virtues of allowing the mother's birth passage to rip,
rather than the commonplace slicing then stitching.
It is asserted that recovery can be swifter.

Is this really the topic of interest to physics teachers?
