Re: Blackboard (remote)

Chat rooms are a good model, but the students will need also to be able to
share with the class their drawings, equations (written by hand not with an
equation editor), graphs and plots, both hand drawn and computer generated,
and the like. Would Blackboard used over the internet do this? Could each
student have a copy of it?

Yes, that feature exists. It has a graphics window to draw in. None of my
students used it except for the first day - "Hey, isn't this cool". I
didn't do enough to promote its use. The other neat feature is that it is
all archived, so you can go back and check what was discussed last night.
The downside is that there is one window for the class, so if two groups
wanted to discuss different things, they would be drawing over each other.
Blackboard is an internet site, maintained by the school. The students log
on, so they do not need "Blackboard", just a web-surfer and a password.
