I would refer all who want to examine the incestuous interplay between
accepted theory and acceptable data to the book The Day the Universe
Changed by James Burke. The next to last chapter is one I xerox and hand
out to my advanced physics class the first week to open their eyes to
the way science really works instead of the PR we give it. I'm not
saying science is bad only that it is a process that requires especially
carefully monitoring .
