Postdoctoral Teaching-Scholar in Physics
Lyman Briggs School


Lyman Briggs School is seeking an individual with a doctorate in physics or
the physical sciences for a one-year posdoctoral position beginning as
early as February, 2000, with possible extension for a second year. The
successful candidate should have a strong interest in undergraduate
learning in physics and mathematics, with particular interest in how
technology-aided learning can be used effectively in college physics and
mathematics teaching. First-hand experience using learning technologies in
undergraduate classrooms is is desired. The successful candidate will work
under the supervision of Dr. Walter Benenson of the Michigan State
University Department of Physics and Astronomy and Dr. Diane Ebert-May of
the Lyman Briggs School.

The Postdoctoral Teaching-Scholar will work closely with a faculty team to
develop, implement, evaluate, and assess effective instructional designs
and student learning for introductory physics; coordinate and teach the
physics laboratories, mentor undergraduate teaching assistants and
collaborate with other postdoctoral teaching-scholars (chemistry, biology)
in the Lyman Briggs School.

The successful candidate will join a small but diverse faculty of humanists
and scientists working in a residential learning community devoted to
studying the natural sciences and their impact on society. All under one
roof, the Lyman Briggs School (LBS) encompasses science laboratories,
classrooms, faculty and administrative offices, and student residences. The
1,500 LBS students enjoy the benefits of a small, liberal arts college and
the resources of a first-class research university. Curious about the
natural world around them, LBS's highly motivated students and faculty work
together to learn what is known and explore what is new.
