Indiana Teachers: Honors Diploma Question

This is for Indiana teachers only, and I will cross post to physics lists,
too.

I was asked by a school board member if I realized that the school corp
gets $800 back for each student who graduates with an honors diploma. I
was shocked that I had never heard that before. This money has been going
into the general fund. He said that one school corp made the decision to
give the $800 back to the student ( the $ isn't received until the next
school year.)
He said that he is generally against this type of compensation for student
achievement (he mentioned M&Ms for 1st graders), but thought that this
might be regarded as a scholarship.
So if you teach in an Indiana High School, would you take time to fill out
this questionnaire and email me directly. I will summarize the results and
post to list. I am not sure if the $ is also granted to private schools.

1. Did you know that the school corporation receives $800 per student who
completes an Honors Diploma?

2. What does your school corporation do with the funds?

3. Should the student be given the money the year after s/he graduates?

4. Number of students grades 9-12

5. Number of students receiving Honors Diploma in 1997

6. Number of students receiving Honors Diploma in 1998

7. Percentage of seniors receiving Honors Diplomas in 1997.

8. Percentage of seniors receiving Honors Diplomas in 1998.

9. Comments ( eg. what do you think should be done with the money?)

Thanks for taking the time.
