No one so far has mentioned Reichert's "A Modern Introduction to
Mechanics", which is supposed to be used for an introductory physics
course. I attended a workshop on this material several years ago,
titled "Start With the Good Stuff" -- it develops mechanics in the
context of particle physics. I have never used it in a class -- I think
it is too advanced for many introductory courses -- nonetheless it
contains some good ideas and interesting material.
