summer workshops in modeling instruction

Hello, colleagues,
Below is an announcement of the final series of Leadership Modeling
Workshops. Please don't reply to me, as I am having major surgery next
week and will be recuperating at home for six weeks (not much fun - but the
surgery is just a structural repair of a childbirth-related condition,
nothing life-threatening).
cheers,
Jane Jackson, Project Director
Modeling Workshop Project

LEADERSHIP MODELING WORKSHOPS FOR HIGH SCHOOL PHYSICS REFORM
The final series of four-week workshops for two consecutive summers starts
in July 1998 at three sites nationwide for 75 exceptionally motivated high
school physics teachers who wish to contribute to science teaching reform.
Selection for the workshops is competitive. Graduate credit is available.
A $1,200 stipend per summer, plus travel, housing, and meal allowance will
be awarded to each participant. Teams of teachers from the same school or
the same city are welcome to apply. There are several openings for
post-secondary teachers. The workshops, designed to correct weaknesses of
the traditional lecture-demonstration method, are funded by the National
Science Foundation (NSF). For workshop dates, locations, and more
information, contact Ms. Reba Wilson, Program Coordinator, Box 871504,
Department of Physics, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ 85287;
