True, if "low end" means < $1000 (US dollars). But how about a 200 MHz CPU
Mac clone from Motorola for $1495, or a 240 MHz/2.5 GB/10x CD clone for
$1999 from APS? Intel has done an amazing job of keeping their clock
speeds and prices almost in line with the PowerPC chips; but the price
differential between Macs and slightly cheaper PCs just isn't very big (and
it is more than made up for in training and support costs as well as
longevity of the machine). There _are_ Mac clones available at a great
price. (Even Apple itself has a 120 MHz Mac for $1299 and a $160 MHz model
for $1399.)

PowerPCs are installed in our classrooms. The new classy, top of the line
model installed in one of the classrooms where I teach is alot slower to
perform operations than my 75 Mhz pentium office machine which is generally
operating with several programs operating in the background. I don't think
clock speed tells the whole story.
