Why is this coming up on this almost-dead list anyhow?

Sorry, I suspect it’s unnecessary for the majority of us. Originally I thought it important that ALL students be treated W/respect, whether it’s physics or English.

Dead list: My other important list is, more correctly, a news letter 4X/year. Horological Science Newsletter. For the last several years it’s shrunk to, usually, only two articles/issue. I think it’s because it follows a logistic curve. I suspect that’s what's happened W/Phys-l. Physlrnr has also saturated.

OK to add something, but likely only new to me.

During the recent Show and Tell, (NorCal/Nevada AAPT section) I demonstrated the Compton effect in a NaI crystal. Thinking lead would be more effective than the Al sheet described in the book: ”Exploring Quantum Physics thought Hands-on Projects”, I used a Pb sheet for the first time, which indeed does give an enhanced Compton edge peak, but what’s that new peak between the Cs 32 keV and the edge (broad at ~ 200 keV)? Being incipiently Alzheimer’sed, it took a week for percolation to result in the ”lightbulb". So now I’ve found peaks from Au [1] , Ag (requires subtracting the Cs only spectrum, as is buried in the 32 keV), Bi (Pepto Bismol tablets), U (self stimulated), and, of course, Pb. This peak is especially prominent when I shield my five inch scintillator W/lead shielding. (Being sl. poor, I use dead small Lead-acid batteries.)

So here’s something I think new to the list.

bc …. and he remembers, he improved the Moseley’s law app. when at UCSC.
