[Phys-L] Red Sprites



Not too long ago, the very existence of sprites was controversial.
There were anecdotal reports of observations, and that's about it.

However .... Nowadays there are more than a few pictures of them,
which you can find by googling. There are also youtube videos.

I mention it in this forum because it is an example of current physics that
students can more-or-less relate to. You might think that lightning and
thunderstorms would have been figured out by now, but they haven't.
