Re: [Phys-L] Old Lab Equipment

Hey, Tim,

Yes, Tom Greenslade is a wealth of knowledge.

Quick response on the old computer interfaces: no, they're not worth
anything. You've probably got the ISA interface board with the Pasco box.
We've all got piles of those. No one has a computer with an ISA slot.
None of the software works with a modern version of Windows.

I tried to hold on to the ISA equipment a little longer and looked up
specialty makers that still had an ISA motherboard. These are sold as
industrial control systems where upgrading to modern hardware is more
expensive than keeping an old DOS system running the production line.

We are doing some sorting and moving in our lab storage area, and of
course there is a lot of "vintage" equipment that is rarely or never used
anymore. Things like

* 1990's era computer interfaces & lab sensors

* 1943 sextant

* Mercury barometer

* Fancy glassware of unknown purposes

I am hoping to figure out what the unknown equipment is, and then figure
out a good fate for it. I hate to throw things out if 1) I can get some
extra money for my budge or 2) someone else might be able to use it or 3) I
might figure out what the heck it is and use it in the future. Is there a
good place (besides google) to try to ID equipment? Is there a good place
(besides ebay) to try to sell it? Is there a good place (besides Phys-L)
to say "hey I have 6 old Vernier ULI interfaces - would someone like them?"
