Re: [Phys-L] Solar System Visitor, and LIGO Gravity Waves Looked Askance. (was Snopes cheques alien object.)

Oh my! Two unexpected results in one week.
Not just a putative scout ship from outer space, presently heading off in the direction of Pegasus, which everyone appears to acknowledge is rather unlikely, but now as reported in New Scientist,  a disconfirmation of the several gravity wave observations by LIGO on the basis that the triad of interferometers were coordinating on the method chosen to separate the data from noise - apparently by abstracting the calculated form of signal expected on theoretical grounds, and testing whether the noise with the putative gravity wave signal removed still looked like the noise signature expected.
The debunking paper acknowledges however that one observation with a time-related visual signal reported by a satellite, is more substantial.
I understand that the LIGO team is not at all impressed with this derogation of the Nobel-awarded work there.
