There's a lot of tricky stuff you can do with magnets.


This is relevant to students who wonder what sort of job
they can get with a bachelor's degree. If you know a little
bit of:
++ physics,
++ materials science,
++ finite-element modeling, and
++ mechanical engineering

you can get a job designing motors and actuators of all
kinds. I know a guy who tried to retire but they kept
calling him back as a consultant at ever-increasing prices
because he knew how to do this stuff.

Contrast this with (say) just plain mechanical engineering.
