That is *one* reasonable way of looking at it. That's
what you get if you choose the spectroscopic SPDF basis.

However, that misses the point of BC's original question,
namely that there are other ways of analyzing the situation.

Mastery of the subject requires being able to look at
it from more than one point of view, and being able to
reconcile the various views.
