Re: [Phys-L] weird elevator touch button switches

This may have to do with the way banks of elevators work. You have to take
the correct one to get to a particular range of floors. He may find that
the elevator for his floor is so busy that it takes forever, so he goes to
the one which goes to 12 and then walks the rest of the way to save time.

An elevator riddle: A man lives on the 20th floor of a
high rise condo building. Every morning he goes to work and
the elevator takes him to the lobby where he walks to the
train. In the evening, on returning FROM work he gets into
the elevator and presses the button for floor 12, gets out
and proceeds to walk up the rest of the way to his condo on
the 20th floor. What's going on? (no, it's not to get the
exercise)
