When reading Ludwik's published note, the following sentence resonated, for me:

"Instead of focusing on experimental
data (in the area in which F&P were recognized authorities)
most critics focused on the disagreements with the coulomb
barrier theory."

It was indeed the case they had established considerable reputations in electrochemistry.
