I am curious as to how many .edu sites DO shell out the bucks and how 
many bucks these folks rake in for a certificate.

I'm reminded of the many rare and precious things that one can buy on 
the cable tv shopping networks, each of which invariably comes with 
it's own 'Certificate of Authenticity'.
