The name isotope (meaning the same place in the periodic table) was
introduced by him in 1913. He is also famous for the discovery
radioactive gasses, emanations, such bas radon (short half-life). He
and Rutherford "reached an excellent understanding of the nature of
radioactivity and published their conclusions that the radioactive
elements were undergoing spontaneous transformations from one chemical
atom into another, . . . " In other words, they discovered alchemy in
nature, such as Ra228->Rn222->Po218, etc.
