A long thread on phys-l discussed the surprising ability of radio 'phones to operate in faraday cages, including pro. ones.

I found the page rather good, especially when combined w/ the comments -- rather better reasoned than the typical.

Apparently your cell phone will still work inside a microwave oven! The shielding doesn't block the microwaves (more precise details etc. in this guy's blog).
