Re: [Phys-l] rust?

Anthony, two other products to try:
PB Blaster
Deep Creep by Sea Foam
Both are available at any car parts store. Technique is more important than which penetrant:

Spray the "stuff" at a location that it can seep down into the threads. Get a small hammer and tap around the threaded region. Try to wiggle it a bit. Let it sit. Repeat a couple of times a day. Repeat several days. After about 4 or 5 days, try to unscrew the pieces.

It's just like solving a physics problem: it takes several step and it takes time. Be patient.

There is a non-acidic rust remover that is excellent for rusted surfaces, but it doesn't work well in tight spaces. It's more for cleaning up parts and surfaces after you get them apart. It's called EvapoRust and it's GREAT stuff. It actually chelates the Fe out of the rust and then you can just rinse it away. Every DIY person should have all 3 of these products in their shop (No, I don't get royalties!) Amazon, among other supply houses has it.

... Does anyone know of a liquid/chemical that
might dissolve the rust/particles and loosen the opening to free these two
pieces? I have tried WD-40....
