Re: [Phys-l] collapsing field in inductor

A lamp and inductor in parallel are powered by a DC supply (battery)
thru a switch. Opening the switch causes the lamp to flash. (nothing
surprising here). However, if the switch is operated in a strong mag.
field, e.g. large magnetron magnet, the flash is brighter and burns out
some bulbs, e.g. 25 W (110 V. I presume)

A low power high volt filament is delicate. In a strong magnetic
field, the filament may break if it is pulsed.
