The American University , Washington , D.C. , and ABTI-American University in Nigeria (AAUN), seek a dynamic and innovative team member with the vision and expertise to contribute to the progress of the AAUN, a private university in its second year in northeast Nigeria . AAUN invites application for a tenure-track position in physics, at the Assistant Professor level, to begin January or August, 2007. Our main selection criterion will be a background of strong physics teaching. The appointment entails classroom and laboratory instruction of bright and highly motivated undergraduates. Applicants should be in a position to teach any of the core courses in the standard physics curriculum.
Successful candidates for this positions will have (1) a thorough understanding of the challenges and significance of building a new higher education institution in a rural region of Nigeria; (2) an ability to interact effectively with both the University community and the broader community; (3) a commitment to academic integrity, civility, and collegiality in a community of learners; and (4) initiative, energy, flexibility, and creativity. Experience in Africa or other parts of the developing world is a plus.
