[Phys-l] Ask Marilyn about circular planetary orbits.



While she was right this Sunday that circular orbits would be astronomically
improbable, I think she betrayed a basic misunderstanding of energy. She
said: "Even if the relevant energies happened to be perfectly coordinated,
and the alignment of the direction of travel were by chance exactly right,
all the planets have a gravitational effect on each other; They would keep
the circle out of whack."

Of course the problem is that she has an implied antecedent to coordinated,
but what could it be? Also how does one coordinate energies? The choice of
words is vary odd.
