Re: [Phys-l] gasoline

Gasoline is mostly heptane which is C7H16 with a molecular weight of
100.

1 mole of heptane will create 7 moles of CO2 (molecular weight of 44) to
give 7*44 = 308 grams.

Therefore 100 grams of heptane gives 308 grams of CO2. The mass of CO2
produced is 3.08 times the mass of heptane burned.

6.2 pounds per gallon times 3.08 is 19.1 pounds of CO2 produced from 6.2
pounds of heptane.
