If "smooth" means frictionless, then the action reaction pair is
perpendicular to the plane of contact.

Subject: [Phys-l] Collision of irregular bodies

Hi,

When two bodies of smooth surface but irregular shape collide
what is the line along which the action reaction pair acts?
