Re: [Phys-l] digital video cameras

If you want a remote (from a computer) I don't think a webcam will do. I use a Canon (powershoot) S1 IS. It's discontinued * so discounted ones may be available. I bought one from costco.com. Less expensive cameras are available . A one meg. card will save about an eight minute clip at the highest speed and resolution (30 fps and 640 X 480 fine). Output is USB and direct NTSC (unfortunately mono.)

If you can stand 8 mm, they are discounted, as it's a dead technology. Mine, old now, outputs both digitally and S-vid. Also digitizes NTSC to tape and the firewire out, and is a still camera (only about one Mpix.) If you purchase one, I'll give you many 8 mm tapes (one hour) for the post.

* The replacement, S2 ?, is stereo, focusses in dim light, and has other enhancements, BUT no longer has IR remote operation.
bc, collector of dead technologies

I would recommend getting the Logitech webcam. They work beyond expectations and they are very cheap.
