and I read too casually JM (sorry) -- I think the worst crime is
political assassinations -- it is truly a crime against the (many)
people; a case where "The people vs. X. X." has meaning.

Morals and judgement are good things.

I think we can agree on some other phrasing. Perhaps something like this:
One should not use formulaic proverbs in place of moral judgement.

Getting back to the nominal subject of this thread: It is (as the
judge noted) the height of irony when people who profess to take
a literal, formulaic, fundamentalist approach to their morality
find it necessary to bear false witness to support their position.
