[Phys-L] Re: Partners in Innovation: Teaching Assistants in College Courses

And by CAREFUL reading of the sequence of e-mails, Jack, you would have
noticed that I did not recommend the paper. Or perhaps you were too
busy to notice that fact.

Vern,
I am neither puzzled nor offended by your response because I've
learned that in this world miscommunication is more common than
communication. My understanding is that there was a single paper that
was
recommended for reading. I consider it good manners, when
recommending a
paper, or a book, to provide more substance than "this is a great book,
you ought to read it!" Thus, a quote or an excerpt that give a flavor
of
why I like the book is a courtesy to my busy correspondents.
Since, by agreement, you are not my student, I am confident
that
you will do as you please.

Jack,

I am puzzled and offended by your response. I thought by giving a web
location to Felder's papers I was adding information to this thread.
Apparently you did not find this responsive enough. Did you want me to
read all the papers and provide summaries of them? Why should I do
this
work for you? I am not your graduate student! Please consider the
tone
and content of your response before sending it.

The results suggest that active and cooperative learning
methods
facilitate both learning and a variety of interpersonal and thinking

resistance, the resistance can be overcome if the methods are
implemented
with care."

Richard Felder did a study of just the sort you are talking about
(except this was done in a five semester Chemical Engineering
sequence rather than Physics).

Hope this is helpful.
