[Phys-L] Re: Natural Gas vs Electricity - conserving energy

Michael hints at something else here. Some buildings are built so that the
windows CANNOT open. There is a reason for that--the complex control of
large buildings is made more complex if windows can be opened in a random
pattern. To allow for that complexity, the cost of our science building
(added to and remodeled in 1986) would have increased by $1 Million (15%).
For the College it was a 'no-brainer'. The small savings in heating/cooling
costs that 'window thermostats' would provide during a couple weeks of Fall
and again Spring would never recover the initial million dollar investment.
Therefore we have a sealed building--(but the heating/cooling system still
doesn't work worth a #*&^)!

Ludwik mentioned non-working thermostats and people opening windows.
