On the other hand, you have to have faith in science. You must have
unshakeable faith that the laws of physics will not change appreciably
between Akron and Toledo nor between Tuesday and Thursday - moreover that
they remain the same regardless of who is testing them.

I would say that we have a great deal of confidence that the laws of physics
will not change BASED on repeated experimentation and the physical evidence.
I cannot, however, be 100% certain that all that won't change tomorrow, but
based on the 'scientific' evidence, I am planning my tomorrow based on the
current laws.

I would say that the role of 'faith in physics' is more metaphysical in
nature. The assumption that what I am experiencing is 'real' and not a
mental fantasy (ala Matrix) and that the measurements I make are 'real'
within the structure of the universe that I am measuring. Without that
level of 'faith' then I doubt that any science, or much else of anything,
can be done.
