[Phys-L] Re: The Republican War On Science

Karl Trappe asserted: "For example, a recent appointment to the FDA (for
reproductive biology pharmaceutical research) was a person who contends
that women need to cure their PMS by prayer, alone, so that further
research on such medication is unnecessary."

Which appointment to the FDA was that? If the reference is to Dr. W.
David Hager, who was appointed in 2002 to head the FDA's Reproductive
Health Drugs Advisory Committee, Dr. Hager has addressed the various
false accusations, such as that he "contends that women need to cure
their PMS by prayer, alone, so that further research on such medications
is unnecessary", in quoted excerpts on
http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/hager.asp and

2385304be12d28f11d23b79e916108.

The hate-attacks found on the internet against Dr. Hager are primarily
because of his pro-life views (described as "vehemently pro-life" by
vehemently pro-abortion advocates) and his urging that the FDA approval
of RU-486 be withdrawn.
