Yes; another example of miss translation, I assume, as sicco -are is L.
to dry. So would not siccant be sufficient? Also, the adj. siccus -a
-um dry, thirsty (this one especially good), etc.

2) Although the dye-in-water version is more graphic,
I like the the vapor-in-air version because it is easier
to interpret. The idea of mean free path is easy to
understand in an ideal gas; not quite so easy in a
dense liquid.
