[Phys-L] Re: god friendly science

I compare the Mormons to a FUNCTIONAL gang. There is a considerable
amount of social cohesion partly due to "out group" hostility. Because
this has lessened there are other factors. As previously mentioned the
religion is very social, as in socialistic, tithing, relief society,
etc. The church is always there to help. The Church is much like a
cult in that one's life is centered, consumed, by the church. The "word
of wisdom" doesn't hurt either.

bc, the black sheep of the family, divorced, mother divorced, and both
excommunicated Later Day Saints. (One and two children, respectively,
while cousins and aunts/uncles average > five.)

Talking of standards....If one sets out to measure some
objective operational characteristics of people exposed
to religious instruction of the Latter Day Saints type
[and I will not refrain from noting that objective operational
testing of the results of Physics instruction seems to leave
some teachers aghast] ....I see that the mean marriage
length for Mormons seems to exceed by a handy margin,
that of the average American, of the agnostic, atheistic
or other religious classification: which was formerly
seven years, then six, five, four, three?
Their family size (which one might suppose is an adverse
factor for marriage length) is also on the high end of the
distribution. In so far as religion is desired for its
social hygienics, then this much, at least, is presumably a
plus for adherents of the Church of LDS

:-)
