Science Museum and Imperial College

This may be of interest to Rete readers or their students:

Postgraduate Studentship at Imperial College, London

AHRC Postgraduate Collaborative Studentship with the Science Museum, London

A postgraduate studentship is available for study at the Centre for History
of Science, Technology and Medicine leading to the award of a PhD in the
History of Science. The successful candidate will be supervised by
Professor Andrew Warwick of Imperial College and Dr Peter Morris of the
Science Museum, London. The student will be expected to explore the
interface between new and innovative scholarship in history of science and
ways of presenting this work to a wide audience through museum exhibitions.
The precise topic of the research will be jointly decided by the successful
candidate and the supervisors. This project is linked to the anticipated
development of a new science gallery at the Science Museum and the student
will work closely with the gallery content team. The student will have
access to the Science Museum's collections and training in handling and
interpretation of objects will be provided. In addition, the student will
also be a member of the PhD programme at the Centre for History of Science,
Technology and Medicine and will take part in its postgraduate activities.
Applicants should have or expect to have a Masters degree, preferably in the
history of science, although equivalent qualifications in related areas such
as cultural history and museum studies will also be considered.

Closing date for applications is 6 June 2005. Application forms and further
details are available from Robert Powell (r.powell@imperial.ac.uk) at the
Centre for History of Science, Technology and Medicine, Imperial College,
London SW7 2AZ.
