Throwing me softballs, eh? It should be "clear"
from Newton's
"definition of mass" that density "is" mass divided
by volume.

I think that it is interesting that density seems more
primal than mass. The ExExploratoriumas a
dedemonstrationhere a person is encouraged to hold a
piece of stStyrofoamn one hand and a metal weight in
the other. Nearly everyone thinks the metal weight is
more massive, but the balance shows them to be equal.

Even science texts often write that gold "is heavy",
dropping off "for its volume."
