Exactly. In the days of wooden ships and iron men, the crew was
berthed in the fo'c'sle, that is, in the forward part of the ship,
and the officers in the stern. That left the trainees to be berthed
amidship, hence midshipmen.
Never ask someone what computer they use. If they use a Mac, they
will tell you. If not, why embarrass them?
