After I described some difficulties
keeping a simple pendulum going back
and forth rather than conical, Carl
Mungan asked why I didn't use a
double-hung pendulum.
That's a good idea, and I will try
it during the next academic year.
The only response I can give as to
why I haven't already tried it is
because there was already a
single hook in the ceiling, and
I simply didn't think of adding
a second hook.
