Re: increased range of a remote

A similar effect happens with hand held AM/FM radios. Ever
notice how you can tune the radio to a particular station,
set the volume, and then set the radio down - and the
volume drops dramatically. Sometimes you even lose the
station completely. You then reach down for the radio and
just as you hand comes near, the volume increases. These
radios are meant to be hand held - the tuning system is set
up to be most efficient when your body acts as the ground
plane. You can often set the radio on a metal filing
cabinet and get a strong reception similar to the hand held
effect.
