Re: Do you use the term SWAG in your teaching?

The "Joan" is "Joan of Arcadia". A show playing on the Joan of Arc motif. A
young woman getting messages from God and thus effecting the people around
her, including her AP Chem. classmates.

I did not want to use negatives with the student, which many would consider
WAGs to be, so I elevated the source to the most supreme. This usually
brought about a smile and thus softened the criticism while making the
point...I wanted to see evidence and "divine" answers were not acceptable in
my science classes.

Hope this helps with the Pop culture part and gives you a glimpse of how I
worked with students, in my own hammy way.

I'm pop. culturally challenged. I've never heard of Joan (TV); don't
know what divine has to do with SWAG, and (unpop. culture) don't know
it's heuristic meaning. Pray inform me. BTW, of course, I'm familiar
with its nominative meaning, booty.

or swag

scientific wild a s s guess.
No hurt intended.
I was sure that this term was very standard communication.
Like "take a swag" at it.

I was challenged recently and told that I could not "say" that word
anymore.
When I looked it up and did a search on it, it does not seem to show up?
Well, you know how I felt. So I was wondering.
This world is a strange place.
