Would throwing an object be a good example of the problem (challenge) of
impedence matching? Throw a BB vs a baseball vs a bowling ball. It is
certainly easier to deliver more energy to the baseball than the other two.

Matching the modest power available from human sources to our desired
purposes has been a continuing preoccupation.

A throwing stick matches smaller with faster, but pushing from the neck with
the arm matches heavier with slower (when putting the shot).
If contact need not be maintained, the golf club, and the hammer come
to mind.
The hammer impresses me with its capability of deforming strong
metals past their yield point, with a single swing to accumulate the
necessary kinetic energy.

Relieving leg muscles of the need to repeatedly raise the body while walking
allows the bike to provide more efficient matching to the backward force
needed for motive power.
