Re: Units of Measurement

That is indeed an excellent resource, Sarma! Rowlett has researched it quite
well and he welcomes feedback.

On a humbler level, as a metrication specialist and as an educator, I have a
collection of pages on the SI that I make available to our students. Readers
here may wish to visit them, starting with the menu page at
http://www.cofc.edu/~frysingj/SIguidelines.htm
Rowlett has done such a superb job of covering non-SI units that I see no need
to come up with my own list, so I have limited myself to the SI.

At my college website I provide what I hope to be an interesting assortment of
pages that go beyond mere listing the units and prefixes of the SI and thus
move towards using them propoerly in English and in other languages. I am
often amazed at the "grammatical" errors some scientists make in using SI
units and also in the number of scientists who are unaware of their genesis
and ongoing maintenance. As one who works in the area of metric standards
development I like to point out that the price we pay for a reduced set of
units is an increased importance in close adherence to the standards.
Therefore my pages dig more deeply into the "how" and "why" than some other
sites do.

I welcome feedback from all readers of my SI pages.

Here is the URL for a very comprehensive collection of

Hope will be of interes to others.
