A neat little demo that seems to work well in illustrating the differing
amounts of sunlight that fall at different latitudes is to hook a solar cell
up to a galvanometer, and then rest the solar cell on different places on a
globe when an overhead projector shines on it. Students can see very quickly
that the amount of light falling on the equator is greater than that falling
in Siberia when the northern hemisphere is tilted away...
