His Legacy and Enduring Relevance:
Innovation in Science Education

on Wednesday, October 8, 2003, 5:30 pm for the occasion of the publication of the 2nd Edition of his textbook "Introductory Physics, A Model Approach"

This event will take place in the Auditorium at Bank Street College of
Education, 610 West 112 Street (at Broadway), New York, New York
(#1 or 9 train to W 110 St/Cathedral Pkwy)

Speakers include:

DR. FERNAND BRUNSCHWIG
Editor, "Introductory Physics, Second Edition"
Empire State College

Reception and refreshments to follow speakers.

This session will focus on current possibilities and potential for
innovation in science education, using Karplus' work as a touchstone.

Dr. Ramaley will draw upon the results of recent work in science
education and in teacher preparation, highlighting key issues and
challenges in the field, as well as current programs and funding
opportunities at NSF.

Dr. Brunschwig will present the new edition of Karplus' innovative
textbook and explain its unique features, which are of particular
value for students encountering physics for the first time.
