A medical doctor should properly be counted among "scientists", but
physicians often betray a less than layman's appreciation of basic
physics. Those many among us who have labored with pre-med physics
courses might experience a laugh and/or a tear at Dr. Peter Gott's current
"Ask the Doctor" syndicated column. He describes lithotripsy as "aiming
harmless electromagnetic waves at the [gall]stones". This is not his
first physics boo-boo. Some of his other faux pauxs have been documented
in AJP.
