Re: Physics Question

Michael Edmiston's reply to the arrow problem reminds us how easily
the "theoretical" assumptions fall to the side when someone with
experience in the "experimental" part of the physics in question lets
us know what "really happens". Thanks, Michael. That was enjoyable.

All of our "thinking out loud" reminds us how difficult it must be
for students with limited practical experiences to choose correct
assumptions. These days, when I mention something, such as "how an
automobile engine works" as a prelude to a given physics topic
explanation, I get blank stares. Those students "from straight of
the farm" often have amazing practical insight, even if their
mathematical skills doom them to failing physics. Karl
